10 Strongest Titans in Legendary's MonsterVerse, Ranked (2024)

When Legendary began the MonsterVerse in 2014, some were skeptical. As much as the 1998 Godzilla movie was fun, it wasn't filled with that grounded, haunting vibe that modern fans wanted. This is why Legendary pushed on with something that could honor the Toho movies, but also, add its own flair.

While the first Godzilla by Gareth Edwards was a bit incohesive and didn't balance the humanity-monster dynamic well, the subsequent films did. To this point, the franchise has veered into straight-up sci-fi fun, with a lot of kaiju roving the planet. With that in mind, here are the strongest Titans the MonsterVerse has to offer after a decade of monstrous threats.

10 The Giant Skullcrawler Caused Epic Chaos

In Kong: Skull Island's finale, Kong encountered a massive Skullcrawler. It outmuscled Kong a lot, flailed him around a lake, and used its long tongue like a lasso. It whipped Kong around and crashed him into the nearby cliffs as well.

Skullcrawler was so powerful, Kong needed the human faction on the island to fire on it as a distraction. He'd end up using the anchor and chain from a nearby downed ship to kill it. Kong was left battered, bruised and bloodied. He realized there was more to his home than he assumed.

9 The Ion Dragon Almost Mangled Godzilla

The Ion Dragon attacked Godzilla down in the Hollow Earth. This pterodactyl-like creature might have been smaller than a MUTO, but this gave it a tremendous advantage. It was able to push Godzilla around, while spitting a sticky fluid in his face.

This prevented the lizard from using his atomic breath, allowing the dragon to bite him. Previously, it took two MUTOs to put Godzilla down in the 2014 film. But this Apple+ TV series had the dragon battering Godzilla as a one-man wrecking crew until Godzilla got ahold of it and ripped it apart. Godzilla was left exhausted, but roaring from yet another good challenge.

8 Tiamat Almost Roasted Godzilla

Tiamat was a mammoth serpent seen on the monitors in King of the Monsters. She'd be more prevalent in the comic, Godzilla: Dominion, which revealed she had bioelectric powers. She ended up fighting Godzilla in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire when Godzilla hunted her for the natural radiation at her lair.

It wasn't an easy heist. The serpent used her limbs and giant frills to strangle, slice and hurt Godzilla. She almost drowned him too, showing the kind of strength Apex Industries wished it had with its Mechagodzilla. Luckily, Godzilla survived her shocks and used his nuclear blasts to fry her up. Otherwise, he would have been killed.

7 Rodan Was a Fiery Threat

Rodan fought King Ghidorah off the Gulf of Mexico. This fire-breathing, pteranodon-like being was a stronger version of the Ion Dragon. He used his wings to generate heavy gusts of wind while maneuvering through the air. Ghidorah attacked Rodan to make him subservient. This aerial battle was quite dynamic, with Rodan outmuscling Ghidorah at key intervals.

Ghidorah used his own electric storms, electric breath, and larger size to quell the threat, however. Rodan bent the knee, but he gave the apex predator a run for his money. Rodan's power was also seen in a fight with Mothra. There, he showed the moth that he shouldn't be underestimated, despite not winning their bout.

6 The Skar King Held Immense Power

Godzilla x Kong unleashed the Skar King to terrifying effect. He used his strength to wrestle and beat up Kong in the Hollow Earth. It helped that he was more limber and had a whip. He then came to the surface where he took shots at Godzilla, too.

The Skar King was very much a scarier version of Kong. This is why Kong asked for help from the Monarch crew and Godzilla. The Skar King knew how to attack his enemy's vulnerable points, so once Shimo damaged Kong's arm, Kong couldn't deal with the ape's power anymore. The Skar King had eons of fighting behind him, so that experience made him mentally tougher, too.

5 Shimo Was a Stone-Cold Killer

Godzilla x Kong's Shimo was the ice titan that the Skar King kept as his war hound. He had the lizard freeze and hurt Kong's hand. He then mind-controlled Shimo to bite, wrangle and freeze up parts of Godzilla's skin.

Shimo was stronger and much faster than the MUTOs and Ion Dragon. A major positive was that Shimo matched Godzilla's size. Her hide also allowed her to take Godzilla's blasts. Thankfully, Kong freed her from the Skar King's control, or she might have overpowered and murdered Godzilla.

4 Gauntlet Kong Became a Completely New Beast

Kong is flesh and blood. Pre-Godzilla x Kong, he was still growing and evolving. Godzilla x Kong upgraded him with a mech-gauntlet. This Kong gauntlet allowed him to beat Godzilla up in Egypt. He grew stronger, could take hits, and dish them out more.

This rectified Kong losing to Godzilla before. Kong then showed his skill against the Skar King, brutally beating him up with that MMA sensibility. The gauntlet physically changed Kong and gave him confidence, which allowed him to set Shimo up to betray the Skar King. Even Godzilla knew this was a different Kong compared to the one who helped him against Mechagodzilla.

3 Mothra Had a Magical Presence

Mothra might be beautiful, but she is a beast. It showed when she used her pincers and power to rough up Ghidorah and Rodan. While she died fighting Ghidorah, Godzilla knew she did so much damage, it was easier for him to capitalize.

In Godzilla x Kong, the reborn Mothra got another chance to shine. She used more of her webs to trap evil apes, flew around knocking them down, and proved to be swift, strong and very effective in battle. She even soared to Egypt and smacked Godzilla around, so he would ally with Kong. That is the epitome of what a strong Titan entails!

2 King Ghidorah Was a Royal Pain

Ghidorah was the three-headed dragon that laid claim to Godzilla's throne. The alien, dubbed Monster Zero, broke out of his frigid hole and pummeled other Titans, so they'd worship him. He then left Godzilla for dead after a blistering fight where he used his electric fields and breath to hurt him.

In time, Ghidorah would kill Mothra due to his sheer size and strength. In all these fights, once the beast got his claws on enemies, the three heads would prove too much. Luckily, Mothra imbued Godzilla with the power to disintegrate Ghidorah. If not, Ghidorah would have pinned Godzilla down and probably killed him.

1 Godzilla Remains the True King

Godzilla always comes out on top in all the movies. He roasted and ripped MUTOs apart. Other Titans like Scylla got the same treatment. Plus, he'd fry up Ghidorah, smash Kong around, and make new threats like the Ion Dragon seem small. Godzilla's strength keeps growing, he keeps getting faster, and his shell keeps getting tougher.

It feels like the MonsterVerse is yet to see his full form. He does have a new pink atomic glow, so it might be that his strength is growing. The way Godzilla manhandled Shimo and the Skar King at times summed it up: the king isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Even the Gauntlet Kong respects, admires and is inspired by the new Godzilla.
