Our Story - Nelson Treehouse (17)

Meet Judy, my wife of 30 years (!); our kids, Charlie, Henry, and Emily; and me, Pete. We work together, along with our extraordinary staff, to bring the magic of treehouses to folks all around the world.

GREETINGS TREEHOUSE FRIENDSINTRODUCING THE NELSON FAMILY

Our Story - Nelson Treehouse (18)

BEGINNINGSI fell in love with treehouses when I was seven years old

and my dad and I built an adventurous tree fort behind the garage of our New Jersey home. The world of treehouses, carpentry, and design continued to captivate me through college in Colorado, where I met my wonderful wife, Judy.

THE NEXT CHAPTER After college, Judy and I moved to Seattle,

where I built single-family houses for a living and started writing my first book, Treehouses. I designed a treehouse on Saltspring Island, British Columbia, for a photo essay on the build process. Once the book came out, my phone started ringing with requests for treehouses. That was 1994.

TREEHOUSE POINTIN 2OO6, JUDY & I OPENED OUR OVERNIGHT RETREAT CENTER, TREEHOUSE POINT,

to celebrate the grandeur of the Pacific Northwest with visitors from around the world. With my designs, Judy’s culinary prowess, and the vision of our marvelous staff, TreeHouse Point evolved into a place of peace, romance, and rejuvenation.

TREEHOUSE MASTERS IN 2012, WE EMBARKED ON A NEW ADVENTURE: OUR ANIMAL PLANET SERIES, TREEHOUSE MASTERS,

which follows my crew and me around on our treehouse builds across the country. It’s been a real privilege to connect with folks from around the world because of our show. I’m grateful to all our fans for tuning in!

THE LEGACY JUDY AND I ARE THRILLED THAT OUR KIDS ARE INVOLVED IN OUR FAMILY BUSINESS.

Our twin sons, Henry & Charlie, are both skilled carpenters who often travel with the rest of the crew to bring our client’s wildest treehouse dreams to life. Our daughter, Emily, is at the helm of our treehouse HQ. In addition to overseeing project operations, Emily founded our online store, Be in a Tree, where you can purchase our treehouse plans, lifestyle goods, and the same heavy-duty hardware we use in our builds worldwide. The family business also brought Emily her husband, Patrick—he’s a lead carpenter on our construction team. Douglas, their son, is our first grandchild and has brought so much joy to our lives!

RELENTLESS CREATIVITY

The sky’s the limit when it comes to creativity. Nothing less! We are tireless in our efforts to realize your dream, from the grandest vision to the tiniest details.

VISIONARY LEADERSHIP

Our team of tree-centric master collaborators is made up of licensed engineers, architects, and carpenters. While our hearts are in the art of building, it is also our dream to inspire, encourage, and educate our customers and offer them superior resources to support their own building and mastery of the craft.

GRACIOUS HOSPITALITY

We extend our warmest welcome and invite our guests to fully immerse themselves in an experience that extends beyond the walls of our treehouses. We, Nelson Treehouse and staff, build and maintain these homey destinations to reinvigorate your wellness. Of every newcomer as well as our longtime loyal friends, our staff and Mother Nature herself have one simple ask: be in a tree.

SAFETY & RESPONSIBLITY

We build with the highest-quality hardware and tried-and-tested techniques that foster the longevity of living trees and prioritize the safety of customers and guests.

CULTIVATING COMMUNITY

We believe treehouses bring people together. Whether you’re building a treehouse or simply enjoying an above-ground retreat, our hope is for you to forge meaningful bonds over something experiential, sentimental, and unplugged from the modern world and digital noise. We also believe in hiring workers from local communities on our builds, providing jobs as well as a sense of optimism, fellowship, and goodwill.
